“Due to global climate change, the number of rainfalls, as well as precipitation is reduced by 20-40 percent in Georgia this year, one of the severe consequences of climate change is the frequent outbreak of fires in the country''
'' The frequent outbreak of fires in Georgia might be related to the prolonged dry season lasted throughout the winter, moreover, the forest lands are at high risk of wildfires because of the dried soil and grass. Since March 1, 2020, National Forest Fund managed by the National Forestry Agency detected forest fires at 43 locations of Georgia on a total area of 546 hectares. It should be noted, that, out of the 43 cases, the most of the fires have already been liquidated, while the rest cases of the fires have been localized, at present, the liquidation works are underway. About 1000 firefighters, 150 foresters and four helicopters of border policy are engaged in the process to fight the forest fires throughout Georgia'' - Levan Davitashvili said.
