Levan Davitashvili: "Our country does not face the danger of food shortages"

"Although the threat of spreading the coronavirus (COVID-19) puts the country under a tight security regime, however, this does not mean, that the population should face the food shortages. In all crisis circumstances, the biggest threat is related to panic. There is really no reason to panic - the country is not in danger of food shortage, ”the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia said after the session of the Intergovernmental Coordination Council of Georgia.

“The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture takes into consideration the best practices and recommendations identified by FAO and  different leading countries, moreover, the Ministry conducts a regular monitoring on the basic food groups. There is a sufficient supply of food in the country. We have identified 18 categories of food (cereals, wheat, salt, sugar, vegetables, poultry, canned products, etc.), which are regularly monitored; We really have no reason to fear food supplies will run out. It is important to remain calm and not create tension in the shopping malls and not make the delivery process unmanageable, which will hurt us and our customers.

We should mention, that all manufacturing processes are being underway in the country without interruption. We don’t face any difficulties in importing products. All the services provided by the Ministry to ensure import-export are carried out in the usual manner " Levan Davitashvili said.
