Levan Davitashvili: “We have supplies of locally produced canned products in the country. However, despite the raising demand, there will be no shortages of food products ”

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili held a meeting with the chief executives of three big canning companies ‘’Kula’’, ‘’Marneuli Food Factory’’ and ‘’Kaspi Cannery Factory’’. 

 “Georgian locally produced canned products occupy leading positions in the consumer market. At the meeting with the chief executives of the canning companies we have discussed supply chain related issues. There is no delay in this direction. The representatives of the companies announce, that they have one year supply of survival food storage and even if there is an increased demand there will be no shortages ”- said Levan Davitashvili.

The Minister noted, that when considering food security related issues, including, setting up of special mechanisms or taking price stabilization measures, we mean food provision in the consumer markets, namely, basic food groups comprising of cereal products, wheat flour and oil, in other cases, both government  procurement, as well as retail market are fully supplied by locally grown or produced products.

It is noteworthy that, in the light of regulations related to the prevention of the possible spread of the coronavirus, under the format of the Interagency Coordination Council led by the Prime Minister of Georgia, the number of meetings held at the Ministry has been significantly reduced. 

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili will further hold a small scale meetings with the representatives of local business time after time.
