Minister to hold a meeting at the US Department of State

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili met with Janine Wynne, Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia, U.S. Department of State.
The Minister thanked the United States Government for it’s assistance and noted, that US Department of Agriculture and US Agency for International Development actively support development of agriculture in Georgia. With the support of the United States, an institutional strengthening program for the Agency of Protected Areas is also actively implemented  as well as introduction of fire control system.
The Minister talked about the optimization process implemented at the Government of Georgia. According to Levan Davitashvili, merging of two ministries has resulted an effective distribution of resources that will help sustainable development of the sector and increase efficient management of the funds spent in the sector.
The importance of state strategy to fight against the invasive pest in Georgia was stressed at the meeting.
implementing a new program planned by the US Government aiming at improving the economic situation of the population living in the border regions was also underlined. As Janine Wynne declared, the US will continue to support Georgia's agricultural development and assist in implementing government initiatives in the country.
Mr. David Bakradze, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the United States, and First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nodar Kereselidze attended the meeting held at the State Department.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili will hold meetings with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and US Department of Agriculture (USDA) within the visit to Washington.
The visit of the Georgian delegation will come to an end on February 24.
