Levan Davitashvili: " The Ministry works 24 hours a day to ensure food security in the country "
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili overviewedcurrent situation and considerations regarding domestic food supply, production, demand , import and prices in the country.
Under the regulations for preventing spread of coronavirus in the country, the Minister instructed Deputies to carry out monitoring and control in the specific areas to ensure adequate food supply for the population.
The Minister pointed out, that 9 basic food products: rice, pasta, sunflower oil, flour, sugar, wheat, milk powder, buckwheat and beans ranking as most consumed products by the Prime Minister's Coordination Council should not be the subject to speculative price increases and uninterrupted supply of these products should be ensured to the greatest degree.
It was mentioned, that slight disruption caused by climatic conditions was temporary and will be easily fixed these days. The state used all resources to clear highways in the shortest possible time and open roads for more than a thousand vehicles loaded with food products and enable them to enter the country through Larsi Customs Checkpoint. Intensive measures are being taken to ensure smooth unloading of products from ships arriving at the Poti port.
The working group set at the Ministry is in constant communication with all stakeholders involved in food provision. The group receives information on the current situation 24 hours a day to ensure, that there are no delays in the supply of food products or other essentials.
It is noteworthy, that, an Interagency Coordination Council is established and led by the Prime Minister to prevent the possible spread of the new coronavirus, under which, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is responsible for overseeing the management, logistics and transportation of food supplies.
