Levan Davitashvili: " Traffic has been restored after operatively conducting road cleaning works, , trucks loaded with food products are coming from Lars Customs Checkpoint, accordingly, there will be no disruption in the food supply"
‘’It is very important to ensure food supply for population in a crisis situation, however, due to extreme weather events we had some disruptions in the supply of certain products. Ships were not unloaded in Poti port and the road was not cleaned at Lars Customs Checkpoint due to avalanche hazards.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development for their support and assistance in the coordination of transportation services and our special thanks goes to the Mountain Resorts Development Company and the Road Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure for helping us in the avalanche collapse process.
We made extraordinary decisions. In extreme snow conditions, the road was cleared to ensure, that there will be no shortages of food supplies.
Trucks are already transporting goods and crossing Lars Customs Checkpoint, so there is no shortages of food supplies, furthermore, I have regular meetings with the wholesale and retail merchants, importers, and local producers to avoid food shortages and not to face mass panic buying, or price hikes and speculative transactions.
We made a decision to introduce a compensation scheme on 9 most consumed food products that will help to build a food supply and facilitate to import non-perishable products that are strategically important in recent times and on the other hand we will be able to maintain price stability ” Levan Davitashvili said.
