"In emergency situations, the grocery stores continue to operate in a usual manner" stated Levan Davitashvili
“I would like to provide an explanation with respect to the trading networks. At present, the great number of our customers keep panic buying at the grocery stores. However, the Prime Minister of Georgia announced, that the state of emergency does not mean to impose restrictions on purchases of foodstuffs.
The population will continue to buy food as they have done before the announcement of the state of emergency. Food facilities continue to operate as usual. Their working hours are not reduced, the trade objects are not closed. Moreover, all trading facilities should take into account sanitary and hygienic recommendations issued by the government and specified by the National Food Agency, including internal standards, the enforcement of which is mandatory.
In terms of food supply, there will be neither delay, nor interruption; Therefore, we remind customers to avoid creation of an artificial demand in the trading networks.
The residents and administration of trade networks should keep in mind to put distance between themselves and other people and stay 1.5 metres away from each other to avoid creation of rows.
As a result of completely irrational panic demand for products, markets are being crowded, which is completely unreasonable and puts us at higher risk in the current epidemiological situation.
There will be no food shortages in the country. The most important thing today is to follow the rules and reduce the spread of the coronavirus as much as possible” said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili.
