Levan Davitashvili: " Growing panic creates an inconvenience and would harm all of us"

“The panic shopping and increased demand for products create some delays in the food supply chain, which might cause an artificial raise in the market price in some grocery stores.

The emergency team works to prevent speculative increases in prices , although, due to "unprecedented" demand from shoppers, the control is becoming increasingly difficult in all directions. Furthermore, we started to use an extraordinary mechanism to eliminate objective reasons for importers for rising prices, such as a differential  exchange rate as a tool for price setting mechanism. Consequently, there is no objective reason that will be reflected in price increase.

We will maintain prices on 9 basic food products (rice, pasta, sunflower oil, flour, sugar, wheat, milk powder, buckwheat and beans), ”said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili.
