Levan Davitashvili: “The price of bread will not increase; There will be no delay in the supply of wheat, flour and bread.”
At the meeting with the wheat flour importers, bread producers and representatives of sectoral associations, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili outlined the importance and necessity of maintaining the price of flour and bread.
The Minister noted, that in the current situation, not raise prices on basic foodstuffs
is of utmost importance.
“Continuous control is conducted on the wheat stocks. In emergency situations, special focus is set on this direction. I state, that the price of bread will not increase, there will be no delay in the supply of food products ”Levan Davitashvili said.
The Minister informed participants about the project developed by the government to insure prices on 9 basic food products (rice, pasta, sunflower oil, flour, sugar, wheat, milk powder, buckwheat and beans).
As Levan Davitashvili noted, the Ministry has developed a "State Program for maintaining prices for foodstuffs", which will be implemented by the Rural Development Agency together with the Revenue Service.
According to the project, from March 15 to May 15, under certain circumstances, the state will
subsidize the difference in exchange rate for importer companies which buy nine basic foodstuffs.
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Giorgi Khanishvili, Head of the NFA, Zurab Chekurashvili, the Deputy Head of the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency, Giorgi Jibladze, and the Head of the Food, Agriculture and Rural Development Department of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Tengiz Kalandaze attended the meeting.
It is noteworthy, that, the Interagency Coordination Council is established and led by the Prime Minister of Georgia to prevent the possible spread of the new coronavirus, under which, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture takes responsibility for overseeing the management, logistics and transportation of food supplies.
