Latvian Minister visits Georgia

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomoni Pavliashvili met with the Minister for Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia, Kaspars Gerhards. Under the frame of the bilateral meeting, the sides discussed cooperation and experience in the field of environmental management and waste management.
Today, within the frame of the environmental cooperation between Georgia and Latvia, the Ministry has signed a Declaration on Waste Management to promote sectoral cooperation between the countries. The declaration was signed by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili and Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia Kaspars Gerhards.
"We firmly support Georgia on its path of integration into the European Union. The environmental protection is very important for Georgia as well as for Latvia and cooperation in this regard is continued between countries over the years. The goal of today's meeting is to strengthen cooperation in waste management " Kaspars Gerhards declared at the meeting.
The harmonization process in the field of waste management and waste management legislation in Georgia with the relevant EU directives was discussed at the meeting. The sides also discussed prospects of future cooperation between the two countries, including the strengthening of public and private sector capacities.
It should be noted, that cooperation between Georgia and Latvia has been launched since 2008, when the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Latvia signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
The representatives of the  Tbilisi City Hall, Ltd. "Solid Waste Management Company"; Ltd "Tbilservice Group" and private sector attended the meeting.
