Levan Davitashvili: "In the current situation, state support is important for the business sector, however, it is also very important for the business sector to take special responsibility"

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili held a meeting with the representatives of refrigeration companies, meat and fish importers and distributors.

 

Under the frame of the current regulations, the importance of provision of uninterrupted  food supply in the country was outlined by the Minister,  who also noted, that sufficient supply of other essential products, as well as support to population to enable them purchase products and other essentials without facing any disruptions  is crucial.

 

“We work on a daily basis to ensure, that the population will not face food shortages. We have constant communication with every link of the food supply chain, accordingly, there are no interruptions or delays and the products are delivered continuously. At the regular meetings with the business society we discuss all issues related to the global emergency situation, including custom procedures, hygiene, sanitary and veterinary issues. In the current situation, state support is important for the business sector, however it is also very important for the business sector to take special responsibility"  said Levan Davitashvili. 

 

As noted at the meeting, there are sufficient supplies of meat and fish products in the refrigeration facilities. At the same time, there are no difficulties in importing cargo.

 

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Giorgi Khanishvili, Deputy Minister Solomon Pavliashvili, Head of the National Food Agency, Zurab Chekurashvili and Head of the Department of Food, Agriculture and Rural Development of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Tengiz Kalandadze  attended the meeting.

 

It is noteworthy, that, the Interagency Coordination Council is established and led by the Prime Minister of Georgia to prevent the possible spread of the new coronavirus, under which, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture takes responsibility for overseeing the management, logistics and transportation of food supplies.
