"We hold regular meetings with the representatives of trading network to reduce financial stress among the population"-stated Levan Davitashvili

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili along with the Business Ombudsman, Mikheil Daushvili held a meeting with the large trading networks to once again discuss the existing food supply related issues.

 

Levan Davitashvili declared :  “ We hold regular meetings with the representatives of trading network to reduce financial stress among the population, as concerns the emergency situations, it is important to regulate procedural issues for smooth running of the work. "

 

The participants set focus on the   price stability and uninterrupted supply of 9 basic foodstuffs. 

 

 It was mentioned that, Georgian Government provides an important support through "State Program for Preservation of the Prices on Foodstuffs", which is implemented by the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency together with the Revenue Service.

 

 “The price regulation being a challenging, complex issue is related to a number of factors. Moreover, the two major players - suppliers and trade networks have to agree with each other upon the terms and conditions to reduce financial stress among the population. In an emergency situation, the most adequate response is the maximum control over all sharpening processes,  and measures that are least burdensome for the population ” Levan Davitashvili said.

 

 According to the representatives of large trading networks, the country has a supply of food products, that will be sufficient for next several months and there are not any problems revealing in this direction. It is of utmost importance, that we no longer see panic purchases in the grocery stores. As for the regulation on the prices of the 9 selected foodstuffs, Georgian Government takes active steps in coordination with all links engaged in the food supply chain to maintain the prices of essential foodstuffs.

 

It is noteworthy, that, at the meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council led by the Prime Minister of Georgia, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture was assigned to oversee the management, logistics and transportation of food supplies.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture works 24 hours a day in the above mentioned directions.
