Biosecurity and livestock track related issues was discussed at the ALCP meeting

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili made a welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the 9th meeting of the Alliances Caucasus Programme (ALCP), where he underlined the role and significance of biosecurity in livestock farming. Levan Davitashvili stressed, that development of livestock sector is a priority direction and improvement of the road infrastructure will address all aspects of the welfare of livestock during transportation.
The functioning of biosafety is directly linked with the animal health and export related issues. It is noteworthy, that at present five modern biosafety points complied with international standards are operating in livestock tracks.
"The control of veterinary and sanitary norms are envisaged under the agenda of Georgia's approximation with Europe. Despite the steps taken by the state to improve the veterinary situation, the positive dynamics in the agricultural development is clearly seen, however there are many challenges, and I think the government, private sector and donor organizations should respond to the existing challenges inclusively’’-  said Levan Davitashvili.
The importance of the improvement of the livestock varieties, alternative ways of finding livestock tracks and importance of state co-financing programs  for development of the livestock breeding and sheep sector was stressed by the Minister in his welcoming speech.
At the 9th meeting of the Alliances Caucasus Programme (ALCP), the specialists, representatives of the international and donor organizations as well as the livestock sector discussed issues of biosafety management and sustainability and effective positioning, construction and maintenance of animal tracks.
