Ilia Tamarashvili got familiar with the ongoing spring farming activities in the village near the occupation line

The Director of the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency, Ilia Tamarashvili along with  the State representative in Shida Kartli region, Giorgi Khojevanishvili visited newly planted garden of the eco-migrant farmer from Adjara region, Merab Shavadze and have seen other neighboring farms in the village Tsitelubani, Gori Municipality, nearby occupation line. 

 

In line with the fight against the spread of new COVID -19, spring works are undertaken
in different regions of Georgia in compliance with the safety standards.

 

The intensive cultivation of land plots and farming areas are being carried out by farmers. The representatives of the Agricultural and Rural Development Services of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture provided farmers with the consultations on agriculture sector related issues and gave them recommendations how to meet the requirements and safety standards designed to combat the spread of the new coronavirus.

 

Considering specificity of the agricultural sector and the specified time-period, in which the farming activities are taken, it is important to perform reasonably accurate and consistent farm labor and not put the whole harvest at risk.

 

Under the program ‘’Plant the Future’’, the farmer, Merab Shavadze has planted a multi-acre garden on a 10-hectare of agricultural land area. The investment amounted to GEL 87,000, out of which the state co-financing amounted to GEL 57,500.


A number of projects were implemented in Shida Kartli region under the frame of the Unified Agro Project, including, planting of gardens on more than 2,250 ha, whereby, state co-financing amounted to GEL 14,572,000. 28 new gardens were planted and 111 enterprises were expanded. The total amount of investment of these new ventures exceeded GEL 37 million, more than 1,000 jobs were created in the above mentioned enterprises under the project.
