"Municipalities will issue permits for the operation of small shops and transportation of farmers" stated Levan Davitashvili

"A few fatal cases and a small number of people infected by coronavirus have been observed in Georgia as a result of effective steps taken by Georgian Government and tireless work and dedication of our epidemiologists, medical and healthcare professionals.

The Inter Agency Coordination Council led by the Prime Minister of Georgia has taken important decisions. Each restriction causes additional inconveniences for our residents, regarding household or agricultural activities. Restricting movement of vehicles created additional problems for population.

However, restriction of mobility was a necessary precondition to avoid a catastrophe and to have an existing epidemiological situation we face today in our country. It is important to protect the health of our population, economic interests are also crucial, but we have to make some compromises.

I would like to underline the fact, that we have achieved results through solidarity expressed by our residents, especially farmers, who are particularly valuable for us, they are representatives of my field, my colleagues and friends.

I have been a representative of the agricultural field for a long time. Our farmers need to increase their awareness about current circumstances and acknowledge, that this period is not comfortable for them; A number of difficulties might arise and interrupt their activities; however, increased collaboration and good communication will play a huge role to solve all above mentioned challenges.

We have made decisions and allow farmers to carry out their spring seasonal farming activities, they will face some obstacles, although agricultural works will not be delayed.

Relevant municipalities will issue permits for movement of farmers, as well as for the operation of small shops. This information is publicly announced and available to everyone, but we are sending a phone message to all farmers about movement of vehicles. Furthermore, walking nearby their houses, or agricultural plots is not restricted.

I would like to note, that all decisions we are making are very hard for us, but they are based on the necessity. In many cases, we make instant decisions, which cause some problems in communication.

Hotline receives 100,000 calls, thereby, dealing with all of them requires a lot of resources; However, in one or two days the situation will become more stable. We would like to thank our  citizens who understand, that decisions made by the government were necessary and urgent” said the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili.
