Levan Davitashvili: " Most of the agricultural markets registered in Georgia do not comply with the requirements, therefore, we should not think, that all agricultural markets will start functioning today. About 80 markets are registered in Georgia."

From April 27, mobility is allowed in both large cities and regions. It is very important for farmers to sell their agricultural food products without delay.

"Gradually, through our support more and more agrarian markets will be in charge.  The National Food Agency, in close communication with the doctors has developed the detailed guidelines to ensure, that hygienic and sanitary standards are maintained and the risk of spreading the infectious disease is reduced. All agricultural markets, including wholesale or retail ones should be complied with these guidelines.

Today, 80 agricultural markets are registered in Georgia, although, most of them do not meet these requirements; Therefore, we should not think, that all agricultural markets
will start functioning today.

In order to restore functionality, markets must meet reporting standards and requirements, including tracking of  salespersons, entry-exit inspection and sanitary supervision of all products; Moreover, under the state of emergency, it is very important to carry out cleaning procedures and disinfection activities, thermal screening and wearing face masks is urgent etc..

In some municipalities, some markets have been operating in accordance with these rules, they meet the standards and are in contact with the National Food Agency. The National Food Agency along with the headquarters located in different regions and led by Governors are making decisions about operation and functioning of agricultural markets” Levan Davitashvili said.
According to the Minister, a special, wholesale market was set  up in Kvemo Kartli region to regulate the current situation. Georgian government helped  buyers and sellers to get connected and communicate with each other.
