Levan Davitashvili: " Certain opposition forces making populist statements, criticizing the Ministry and Georgian government's agricultural policy are behaving like dilettantes and in many cases, their statements lack of true essence

"I would like to set focus on the supply of wheat and rank it among top issues. A few days ago, the representatives of media raised a question, however, the information about restrictions imposed by top exporter of the world, Russian Federation was spread in the country.

Russian Government imposed a quota limiting exports of certain grains in the amount of 7 million tons for grain crops, however, the overall time for quota in fact is exhausted; Accordingly, by June 1, they will have restrictions on the export of wheat and grain crops.

We have repeatedly stated, that food supply is ensured and implemented without interruption. The price of bread is controlled and maintained in the country; we have implemented effective mechanisms, therefore, from a social point of view, no additional burden has been placed on our population.

With regard to wheat stocks, the Ministry is conducting a continuous monitoring and taking all necessary measures to replenish stocks, that are critically important.

Moreover, we introduced some additional tools, that allow importers to have an access to cheaper financial resources and create more stocks. These measures serve to ensure, that our population don’t face problems in the crisis situation caused by the spread of COVID-19 pandemic across the world.

I would like to note, that certain opposition forces  making populist statements, criticizing the Ministry and Georgian  government's agricultural policy are acting like dilettantes and, in many cases, their statements lack of true essence. They have neither information, nor professional knowledge to properly analyze, assess the situation and draw right conclusions. I would like to state, that our agricultural policy has always been consistent.
Under the governance of  Georgian Dream party, for the first time, state agricultural programs were launched to support the  private sector in the country. In previous years, state interventions were implemented to create and develop state-owned companies, although, programs providing hundreds of millions of dollars  to promote private sector and support the development of agriculture  have never been implemented in our country before ” the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili,.
