EU support in the forest and waste management sectors

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili met with the  Attaché, Programme Manager for Environment and Rural Development, Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, Alvaro Ortega Aparicio. The sides discussed issues related to the establishment of  legislative and institutional framework in the forestry and waste management sector which should be harmonized with the EU rules and standards.
In cooperation with the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania and the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary, the twinning project of public services is being implemented on the "Strengthening of Sustainable Forest Management in Georgia", which promotes the development of the current reform in the forestry sector and establishment of the sustainable forest management system in the country.
The sides also discussed the European Union project on "Technical Assistance to Improve the Waste Management Systems in Georgia", which aims to assist Georgia in the development of waste management system. In accordance with the Association Agreement and Waste Management Code, the National Waste Management System should be developed.
