Ecosystem of lakes to restore

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia starts developing measures to restore the ecosystem of industrial lakes in Samtskhe-Javakheti. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili paid a visit to Samtskhe-Javakheti region. There are 7 lakes in Samtskhe-Javakheti, 5 of them (Bughdasheni, Tabatskuri, Khanchali, Kartsikhi and Madatapa) are included in the list of protected areas, 2 lakes, Paravani and Sagamo lake, are left beyond regulations. Therefore, holding an effective communication with the local population, the Ministry starts researching the ecosystem of two lakes and develops a scheme to restore and regulate the ecosystem of lakes.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture got acquinted with the current situation in animal husbandry and traditional cheese making process in Samtskhe-Javakheti region.
Levan Davitashvili expressed his interest in cheese, which has been made by nuns for 7 years already in Poka Monastery and is known as the "Poka Monastery cheese". The Minister underlined the importance of geographical origin of cheese production and opportunities to produce high quality cheese in Javakheti region.
The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili was accompanied by the Head of the Agency of Protected Areas, David Markozashvili and Deputy Head of the Tourism Department, Medea Janiashvili.
