The anti-crisis plan for agricultural sector presented by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture at the Administration of Georgian Government

At the Government session ,the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili unveiled an anti-crisis plan for agricultural sector. The farmers and entrepreneurs  engaged in the farming activities will have an opportunity to get a significant financial assistance from Georgian Government. 

‘’It is very important, that direct financial assistance, such as subsidies will be available for farmers to increase  their production through much easier and cheaper resources; Farmers will have an access to different agricultural material” the Minister said.

Support for small-scale farmers
 
New state program "Stimulation for Agricultural Land Owners" will be launched in the country. The cost for agricultural commodities and plowing services will be subsidized under the program. Moreover, the amount of subsidy per hectare will be 200 GEL (200 points accrued on the agro-card). The individuals and legal entities need to own an agricultural land plot registered in the public register to get a subsidy under the new state program.

If a farmer owns an agricultural land plot ( 0.25 ha to 1.25 ha), he will be able to purchase agricultural commodities through points accrued on the card, including:
 
• Fertilizers and chemical / biological plant protection products
• Chemical / biological plant care products
• Seed and planting materials
 
If farmers own the agricultural land plot (1.25 ha to 10 ha or more), they will be able to use points accrued on the agro card to purchase agricultural commodities and farm plowing services as mentioned above.

The maximum amount of subsidy for agricultural land plot not exceeding 10 hectares will be 2000 GEL. About 200,000 farmers will benefit under the program, which will be launched on May 20, 2020. The program budget amounts to GEL 37 000 000.
