Amid the Coronavirus pandemic, the issues of food security, as well as uninterrupted supply of food products was brought forward by the Deputy Minister at the online meeting

At the online meeting, the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Khatia Tsilosani discussed issues of food security, as well as, ensuring uninterrupted supply of food products in the country facing the novel Coronavirus pandemic.


Khatia Tsilosani briefed the participants on the measures taken by Georgian Government to control food supplies and ensure continuous supply of food products  amid the pandemic.


The  importance of effective steps taken by Georgian government to ensure the wheat stocks was outlined at the meeting. 

 

The Deputy Minister set focus on the programs developed under the agricultural anti-crisis plan, whereby, she noted, that farmers receive significant support from the government in a number of areas.


The online meeting was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia , Vladimir Olegovich Rakhmanin,   Deputy Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia , Raimund Jehle , Director General for Economic and Social Development at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Maximo Torero ,  Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Croatia Tugomir Majdak, Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia , Arman Khojoyan, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Taras Kachka ,  Vice President of Copa Kogeca, Paulo Gouveia attended the meeting. 


The FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia , Vladimir  Rakhmanin outlined the importance of innovative approaches in the agriculture sector and set focus on the introduction of electronic trading platforms in the post-pandemic period.
