At the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the log sort yard-so called ‘’ business yard" has been organized in Sagarejo Municipality
The National Forest Agency is changing the practice of timber production. The so-called "social cutting ‘’, the practice of cutting trees for personal or commercial purposes will be changed gradually and the Agency will carry out the production of timber resources, as well as sorting and storage of forest resources in the log sort yards in an organized and orderly manner.
At the meeting with the residents of Sagarejo municipality, the importance of forest management, as well as log sort yards envisaged under the new code has been outlined by the Deputy Minister of Environmental and Agriculture, Yuri Nozadze. The representatives of local self-government attended the event.
At the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the log sort yards will be organized and established in all regions of Georgia. This change will enable residents and the private sector to purchase and transport timber resources at any preferred time.
"It should be noted, that the new forest code, which has already been approved by the Parliament of Georgia is an important part of the forestry sector reform.
The bill aims to establish the sustainable and multi-purpose forest utilization, maintenance and protection of forest ecosystems, reasonable use of social and economic benefits. The establishment of the log sort yard along with other activities provided by the Code is one of the main tools for introduction of sustainable forest management" - said Yuri Nizadze.
The works are carried out to establish the log sort yard in almost all regions of Georgia. The total of 26 log sort yards -so called "business yards" will be established by the end of the year across the country.
As a result, utilization of forest to produce timber resources will be carried out more efficiently, the negative impact on forest as well as illegal logging will be reduced.
