The Contest ‘’Clean Region" 2020 to launch in Georgia

On the World Environment Day, the contest  "Clean Region" 2020 was announced to launch in Georgia. The event initiated by the "Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth - Georgia" with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia is being held under the project ‘’Keep Georgia Tidy’’.

 

The competition "Clean Region" aims to reveal the cleanest region, municipality, city / small town, clean/ beautiful village / community, clean street, beautiful clean yard and clean balcony throughout the country.

 

"I would like to congratulate all citizens of Georgia on the World Environment Day. I address to all residents of our country to take part and make their contribution in the protection and care of our environment. The important contest "Clean Region" is announced today, which is gradually becoming a part of our tradition. It is very important , that more and more people are getting involved in this competition. I would like to see an increased number of similar activities in the country ”said the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili. 

 

The Chairwoman of the Georgian Green Movement / Friends of the Earth Georgia, Nino Chkhobadze congratulated the participants on the International Environment Day and noted, that cleanliness as one of the main factors plays a great role in overcoming the new coronavirus.
"Today, within the frame of the project " Keep Georgia Tidy’’, the fifth competition" Clean Region "is announced, which will be summed up in January 2021. We ask all municipalities and citizens to take part in the contest” said Nino Chkhobadze.

 

It should be noted, that the contest "Clean Region" set within the project " Keep Georgia Tidy’’ reduces the number of natural landfills across the country and plays an important role in increasing public awareness.

 

The project " Keep Georgia Tidy’’(KGT),  is implemented by NGOs: the Union of Nature Researchers of Georgia "Orchis", "Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth - Georgia" with the support of the Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. In cooperation with the Solid Waste Management Company and support of the Swedish Government.
