The project on the protection of sustainable forest management principles to discuss at the online meeting

The project "Supporting the Reform of the Forestry Sector in Georgia to Reduce the Emission of Greenhouse Gases Caused by Forest Degradation and Strengthen the Ecosystem Resistance to Climate Change" was discussed at the online meeting, at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

 

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Khatia Tsilosani  opened the online meeting.

 

The Deputy Minister expressed her gratitude to the German Government and German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) for their support in the development of the project and drew her attention to the activities implemented by Georgian Government in the forestry sector.

 

"Sustainable development of the forestry sector is one of the top priorities of our country. Accordingly, this project is crucial for us. We hope for the support of the Green Climate Fund (GCF). This project will significantly help the country to reduce greenhouse gas emissions ”said Khatia Tsilosani.

 

According to the project, the National Forestry Agency (NFA) should  improve the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of forest arrays in accordance with the principles of sustainable forest management and reduce emissions from greenhouse gases caused as a result of forest degradation. 

 

"We support the development of environmental directions in Georgia. I am pleased, that the country has announced the sustainable development of the forestry sector as a priority issue. I hope for effective cooperation with Georgian side ”said the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Georgia, Hubert Knirsch.

 

It is important, that the project promotes vocational education and the development of alternative fuel markets through sustainable use of energy efficient technologies and firewood.
The representatives of the diplomatic corps and partner organizations accredited in Georgia, members of the current governing board of the Green Climate Fund and the heads of the relevant departments of the Ministry attended the meeting
