Wheat field day held in Marneuli Municipality

The company ‘’Lomtagora’’ organized an open day - the wheat field demonstration event ‘’Lomtagora 2020 ‘’ in Marneuli Municipality.

 

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili attended the event.

 

The top 100 wheat varieties selected across the world, including Georgian local varieties, endemic-aboriginal, drought-resistant and virus / disease -resistant varieties were presented at the event.

 

As part of the event, the advanced wheat technology was tested and demonstrated at the event, it should be mentioned, that using this technology will improve productivity and increase the average wheat yield by 4-5 tons per  hectare.

 

"The government has taken important steps in the development of wheat production. Our goal is to help Georgian farmers to produce the largest number of quality wheat seeds locally ” said Giorgi Khanishvili. 

 

The guests had an opportunity to get familiar with the endemic varieties of Georgian wheat sown on the company's plots, such as: Shavpkha, Makha, Tetri Dika, Shavi Dika, Chelta Zanduri, Gvatsa Zanduri, Tsiteli Doli, Korbouli Doli and others. It‘s worth mentioning, that national catalog includes the wheat variety "Lomtagora 126". This year, 3 more varieties will be tested for registration.


The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Khatia Tsilosani, representatives of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, local self-government, scientists and farmers attended the event.
In 2013, Lomtagora Ltd was established under the preferential agro-credit project. The warehouse for grain storage was built with a capacity of 2,000 tons. A seed processing plant was created with a production capacity of 5,000 tons per season, providing certified wheat on 20,000 hectares of land area.
