Peach and Nectarine picking season has started in Kakheti region

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili along with the State Representative of Kakheti region, Irakli Kadagishvili, Gurjaani Majoritarian MP Davit Songhulashvili and Gurjaani Municipality Mayor Archil Khandamashvili met with the local farmers in the village of Chumlaki.

"This year, we are expecting an abundant harvest of peaches and nectarines in Kakheti region, with a total forecast of more than 35,000 tons. The farmers will face no problem in selling of products. Peach and nectarine will be exported from Georgia under the single window principle.

In total, 22 refrigerators will operate. Our Ministry will control the functioning of the green corridor. I would like to address farmers to get engaged in the insurance program, within the frame of insurance program only 24 hectares of land are currently insured, and the total area of gardens includes about 6,000 hectares ”said Solomon Pavliashvili. 

The state representative in Kakheti region, Irakli Kadagishvili noted, that amid the coronavirus, the state did its best, accordingly, farmers did not have any delays in carrying out the farming activities in compliance with the agro-terms.

"The farmers got assistance under the agro-diesel support program, which helped them a lot in the harvesting process.

 
With the state support programs implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, 3 powerful processing plants are operating in Kakheti, producing juices and fruit purees. In my opinion,  the peach harvest will be successful and farmers will be satisfied ”said the State Representative in Kakheti region, Irakli Kadagishvili.

As of today,  the harvest of peaches and nectarines reach more than 396 tons, out of which 49 tons are already exported. Peach wholesale price fluctuates from 1.00 to 1.3 GEL.
