Wheat harvesting is entering the active phase

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili together with the State representative in Kakheti Region, Irakli Kadagishvili met with the farmers in Dedoplistskaro municipality, whereby,  state officials got acquainted with the wheat and barley harvesting process.

"Harvesting, as well as storing of grain crops are carried out smoothly. This year, due to the climatic conditions, the harvest is less compared to the previous year. Demand for both barley and wheat is increasing. The price of barley is 65 tetri, wheat price exceeds 60 tetri. This is the highest price observed in the same period of previous years during the harvest. Consequently, this year is an economically interesting year for farmers. I believe, that the season will be successful, which indicates, that the field is developing "Levan Davitashvili said.

The state representative of Kakheti region noted, that the number of combine harvesters are enough for harvesting and storing of wheat and barley without facing any problems. 

 On June 15, the harvesting was started in Kakheti region, furthermore, farming activities are carried out in compliance with the agricultural terms and conditions, farmers aren’t facing any problems. 100 units of Combine Harvesters of the Agricultural Logistics and Services Company of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia are actively involved in the harvesting process.
 
Wheat sown areas embrace 71,000 hectares in Kakheti region, whereby, barley areas include more than 22,000 hectares, although, it should be mentioned, that wheat areas are comprised of 50 thousand hectares and barley - 27 thousand hectares of agricultural land areas across the country.
 
This year, the wheat crop are forecast at approximately 150 thousand tons, and barley to reach 70-80 thousand tons.

The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili, Chairman of the Agricultural Committee, Otar Danelia, Majoritarian MP in Sighnaghi and Dedoplistskaro, Irakli Shiolashvili, Director of the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency Ilia Tamarashvili, and the Mayor of Dedoplitskato Municipality, Nikoloz Janiashvili accompanied the Minister and State Representative in Dedoplistskaro Municipality.
