"Despite challenges created under the Covid-19 pandemic, the harvesting, delivering and selling peaches go on smoothly" declared Levan Davitashvili

The peach picking season is entering the active phase in Kakheti region. The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili visited the region, whereby he met with the farmers and took part in peach picking, harvesting process. The Minister got familiar with the farming activities, especially, when the peach fruit is being stored in the refrigeration plant.

"Despite challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic, the harvesting, delivering and selling peaches go on smoothly. The refrigeration systems introduced to the farming in the last two years is the most important link for a farmer to sell products at a stable and high price. At this stage, the peach picking season is at its peak, the citizens from different parts of Georgia are getting hired in the peach picking process. I believe, that this is one of the most successful seasons of the year. The process goes on smoothly and prices are high. The Farmers are feeling more satisfied and this is the result of our systemic approach. The Coordination Headquarter is actively working to ensure, that importers will not face problems in relation to the entry process, at the same time, all relevant links are engaged to ensure that all above mentioned processes are safe ”Levan Davitashvili said.

Levan Davitashvili together with the Governor of Kakheti Region, Irakli Kadagishvili visited the refrigeration plant of the entrepreneur Soso Gioshvili. Soso Gioshvili took advantage of a preferential agro-credit (GEL 952,500), built one of the largest refrigeration plant in Gurjaani district and purchased agricultural machinery.

The Minister and the Governor of Kakheti region took part in the peach picking process in the garden of the farmer Malkhaz Jokhadze. According to Irakli Kadagishvili, farmers are satisfied with the storing of this year's harvest, as well as the price of peaches.

According to July 6 data, peach and nectarine export has reached to 1,397 tons. This year, we are expecting an abundant harvest of peaches and nectarines, with a total forecast of 35,000 tons. It should be noted, that 20 refrigeration plants are engaged in the fruit storing process. The price of peach delivery amounts to1.00 - 1.50 GEL, and nectarine - 1.40 - 2.00 GEL. The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili, Majoritarian MP of Gurjaani, Davit Songhulashvili,  Mayor of Gurjaani, Archil Khandamashvili, Deputy Head of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance Kiazo Akhalaia accompanied the Minister together with the Representative of the relevant agencies of the Ministry of the Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
