The use of alternative energy resources will significantly reduce the pressure on the forest

At the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the meeting of the National Forest Program (NFP) II Working Group on ‘’Alternative Energy Resources and Sustainable Use of Firewood’’ was held to discuss the ways to reduce the pressure on the forest, improve energy efficiency and use alternative renewable energy resources in the country.

 

"Today, the use of energy efficiency resources,  as well as sustainable forest management are considered as one of the priority directions facing the country. We have discussed this very important issue - how to reduce the pressure on the forest through using alternative energy resources at the meeting with the donor organizations and stakeholders" - said the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Yuri Nozadze.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the implementation of pilot projects, which envisage the introduction of alternative renewable energy sources and promotion of the production of energy efficient stoves in Georgia.

 

Sustainable use of alternative energy sources and firewood related activities are financially supported by the German and Austrian governments, whereby, technical support is provided by the German International  Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and CENN.

 

The representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, international organizations, academic circles, non-governmental organizations and City Hall of Akhmeta Municipality attended the meeting.
