The public consultation meeting on the Alazani-Iori River Basin Management Plan was held in the village Tsinandali

The  public consultation meeting on the Alazani-Iori River Basin Management Plan was held in Tsinandali, Kakheti region within the EU Water Initiative Plus for the Eastern Partnership (EUWI + 4 EaP) program. The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Nino Tandirilashvili attended the meeting.

 

"The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture is actively working to implement water resources reform in the country.
With the support of the European Union, we are working to establish river basin management principles and develop a river basin management plan.

 

" The representatives of local government along with the local authorities have been actively engaged in the discussion of Alazani-Iori river basin management plan in order to identify problems related to the water resources and develop recommendations for local residents and various sectors to further improve their access to water resources"  said. Nino Tandilashvili.

 

The representative of the EU Project in Georgia, Zurab Jincharadze presented the interim results of the Alazani-Iori River Basin Management Plan to the stakeholders.
At the meeting, the participants set focus on the challenges identified in the development process of the Alazani-Iori River Basin Management Plan. The experts discussed issues related to the surface and groundwater quality in the Alazani-Iori River Basin and unsustainable use of water resources.

 

The project aims to improve the legal and regulatory systems of the Eastern Partnership countries in accordance with the European legislation and International obligations, also, development and implementation of river basin management plans based on the principles of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) , including public participation in the development of river basin management plans.

 

The representatives of the relevant agencies within the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus), international experts and local stakeholders attended the meeting.
