EU Project - Water Data Management
 Developing water information system and strengthening capabilities was discussed at the meeting, which was held on the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the European Environmental Agency (EEA).
As the Deputy Minister, Nino Tandilashvili stated, it is important to receive relevant, reliable and harmonized water data that will allow us to evaluate the current situation in the country and conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of water resources.
The existence of reliable information will support sustainable and effective policy development, as well as the development and management of marine and fresh water ecosystems.
At the meeting, Georgian experts got acquainted with the European experience in the processing and analysis of information on water resources. The meeting was held within the EU-funded project - " Implementation of the Shared Environmental. Information System (SEIS) principles and practices in the Eastern Partnership countries." (ENI SEIS East II).
The four-year project envisages the implementation of Unified Environmental Information Systems (SEIS) principles and is based on activities carried out in six Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) in 2010-2015.
The project aims to deepen relations between the EU and Eastern Partnership countries through strengthening environmental governance and environment protection. The project promotes development of assessment of biodiversity, water, soil, air and environmental conditions and will be continued until 2019.
Experts from European Environment Agency (EEA), European Internal, Coast and Marine Water Resources, National Statistics Office of Georgia, Water Quality and Quantitative Information and Analytics, and Information Technologies IT Specialists of the same agencies attended the meeting. Â
