"Relevant services of the Ministry are mobilized to ensure, that problems are not created in the supply of food and basic necessities in Svaneti region" stated Levan Davitashvili

" Amid Covid-19 Quarantine, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has taken responsibility to ensure the supply of food products and other essential items. The relevant services of the Ministry are mobilized to avoid problems in the supply of food and basic necessities.

We have already gained an experience in this area, while working in the regions and imposing strict quarantine measures in several municipalities of Kvemo Kartli region.
Today we use the same experience regarding restrictions in Mestia, although it should be mentioned, that Svaneti  is characterized by its own specificity. This is quite a large and not so densely populated area. At the same time, many villages are far from the district center. Accordingly, this region requires logistical support and coordination, for that reason various services of the Ministry are already mobilized in the region.

Currently, one of my Deputies is in the region and personally ensures coordination of all work related activities. At this time, we can state with full responsibility, that population doesn’t face the threat to the supply of food and other basic necessities. There is no food shortage in the region. According to the current data, several trucks loaded with food products are coming from Kutaisi to enter the region.

Moreover, the distribution company which ensured the supply of food products in the region still continues it’s activities and works smoothly. The distributors have no problem of moving around the region.

The employees of the Ministry  are keeping a record of all vehicles entering the region. All vehicles are controlled, they can move only to a specific points or destinations.
All vehicles leaving the region are also controlled (time is fixed, etc.). All issues are organized by our working group.

"The National Food Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture  together with the Labor Inspectorate are actively involved in monitoring of the regulations introduced by the Ministry of Health, regarding keeping distance in food establishments, as well as introducing other standards to minimize and reduce the risk of spreading the infection" - said Levan Davitashvili.
