Hazelnut growers are expecting a record breaking harvest this year

Hazelnut harvest has started in Samegrelo region. The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Giorgi Khanishvili visited the hazelnut dryer of the Georgian Hazelnut Producers Association and hazelnut processing plant ‘’Geo Nuts’’.

 

Giorgi Khanishvili together with the representatives of local self-government got familiar with the delivery process of hazelnuts and got information about the results of the laboratory tests of hazelnuts.

 

 At present, the hazelnut processing plant has already delivered the first batch of the crop, which will be exported in the coming days.

 

"The results have been achieved through joint efforts of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, local self-government and farmers.
These days, the first batch of a hazelnut crop, broken hazelnut core will be shipped to Germany for export.
The hazelnut production chain being organized in a smooth manner is a clear example of how agriculture should be developed in the country.

 

"Farmers receive adequate remuneration, which guarantees that their interest will be increased, farmers will bring high-quality products, increase productivity and be successful" - said Giorgi Khanishvili.
This year, 50-55 thousand tonnes of hazelnuts are expected to be harvested, which is a significantly improved figure compared to the previous year.
