This year, local farmers expect to harvest up to 50,000 tons of hazelnuts, which is a significant increase over the previous year.

Ms Khatia Tsilosani, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and Mr Tite Aroshidze, Minister of Agriculture of Adjara met with fruit farmers in the village of Kakuti, Kobuleti Municipality and discussed the issues of harvesting and accommodation.
As farmers noted at the meeting, quality and surplus harvest of this year is the result of a successful campaign against pests.

"As a result of joint work by the central and local authorities and farmers, we expect to harvest more than 50,000 tons of hazelnuts in the country this year. It should be noted that the quality of the crop is much higher. Farmers adhere to the recommendations elaborated by the Georgian Hazelnut Growers Association. Effective deployment of actions complements making Georgian nuts competitive," Deputy Minister Tsilosani said.

"The chain of hazelnut production is a clear example of how to enhance agriculture. Fruit farmers receive appropriate remuneration, which guarantees that interest will increase, farmers will bring high-quality products, take care of productivity growth and harvest success," - Mr Aroshidze stated.

It should be noted that in order to strengthen the capacity of the fruit growing sector, the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara provided 2500 units of mobile garden spraying equipment to co-farmers on the principle of co-financing. At the same time, agrarian extension was carried out on 2000 hectares area.
