Levan Davitashvili and Peter Wiebler opened a nursery “Ready Seedling” in Marneuli

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Levan Davitashvili, together with the USAID Mission Director, Mr.Peter Vibler, opened a „Ready-made seedlings” nursery in the village of Azizked, in the region of Marneuli.

“With the support of the United States and in cooperation with USAID, a number of successful projects have been implemented in Georgia. The opening of this nursery is a clear example of this. With financial support, US technical assistance and knowledge sharing is important to us. I think the  nursery “Ready-made Seedling” will say a new word in the development agricultural sector. The production of high-quality hybrid seedlings of vegetable crops in Georgia, as well as the introduction of already patented berry crops, in particular strawberries, is especially important for the development of the field. As a result of close cooperation between the Ministry, USAID, Sakpatenti (The National Intelectual Property Centure of Georgia) and a private company, an important step has been taken to develop the fruit growing sector and increase its competitiveness, which will bring results in the future,” Levan Davitashvili said.

According to Peter Wibler, Mission Director, USAID has been supporting the introduction and development of modern technologies in agricultural sector of Georgia for many years, which will help to increase the production and incomes of farmers.

“Every farmer has the goal to develop an inclusive economy, which creates more jobs that is important for the country. “Ready-made seedling” is a modern enterprise, where a high value and quality product is created. In the near future, it will be possible to supply the Georgian market, as well as export to neighboring and European countries. We are proud to support the company in advancing, providing technical assistance to Georgian entrepreneurs and helping them to export the highest quality products worldwide,”said Peter Webler.

“Ready-made Seedling” is one of the leading nurseries in Georgia, which produces vegetable and flower seedlings. Recently, due to increased demand for berry seedlings from local farmers, the company has started producing berry seedlings with financial support from the USAID Agriculture Program. “Ready-made seedling” is already propagating “Malga” and “Scala” varieties. In the near future, about 250 thousand seedlings will be available for interested farmers.

The company “ Ready-made seedling “ also received the financial support from the Government. Within the framework of the “United Agro Project”, more than 2,800,000 GEL was invested in the farm, of which 365,000 GEL was a grant and more than 1 million GEL was a preferential loan.
