Imereti Agrozone greenhouse cluster project will start at the end of this year

The first phase of the “Imereti Agrozone” greenhouse cluster development project has been completed. The Georgian-Dutch consortium presented the concept and work plan of the “Geoholding & KSH” cluster to the members of the Board. The event was attended by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Levan Davitashvili and the Governor in the Imereti Region Mr. Zviad Shalamberidze.

 

“Implementation of the several-year Imereti agro-zone project will start by the end of this year. the goal of the project is to replace imported vegetables and other agricultural products with the local production, as well as to export Georgian products to different markets. As a result, agricultural production zone will be established in the region on 220 hectares of land, and if successful, similar farms will be established in other regions as well, ”said Levan Davitashvili.

 

According to the Governor of Imereti region, Zviad Shalamberidze, the implementation of the project will enable entrepreneurs and farmers of Imereti region to share European knowledge and experience and produce high quality products for export. The project will employ more than 900 people, which will have a significant economic impact on the Imereti region.

 

It is planned to establish a training-demonstration center in the greenhouse cluster of “Imereti Agrozone”, where interested people will be able to study modern greenhouse technologies and be employed in greenhouses. A logistics center will also be set up in the cluster area to ensure access to the various markets..

 

With the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and and Agriculture of Georgia,  greenhouse cluster development project will be implemented by the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency. 

 

The Georgian-Dutch consortium was selected last year on the basis of an international competition announced for the “Imereti Agrozone” greenhouse cluster development project.
Presentation of the greenhouse cluster concept and work plan was attended by The members of the Imereti Agrozone Board, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, international donor organizations and local authorities of the Imereti region.
