Mr. Levan Davitashvili: “Wine production and export have increased 5 times since 2012, which is a result of our consistent policy”

“More than 80% of the wine produced in Georgia is exported. In general, Georgia focuses on export products, because we are a small country and have a small domestic market. In addition, the decline in tourist flows in the domestic market has affected and complicated the situation for wine companies. Exports are reduced in small quantities but in larger amounts. With reduced revenues, reduced purchasing power of wine companies and without the incentives we created and without the distribution of funds, which on the one hand meant subsidies and, on the other hand, the emergence of cheap working capital for companies, the Vintage would be problematic.

We have done our best to make this year’s harvest successful and to appreciate the hard work of the farmers. In the coming years, of course, we will continue to work consistently on the growth and expansion of export markets.

We had about 20 million bottles of wine exported in 2012, today we have about 100 million bottles. Also, the industry has increased at least 5 times, the processing capacities has been increased as well that were co-financed by the government of Georgia.

Today, we are talking about approximately 300,000 tons of grapes to be treated properly  when 2012 only 50,000 tons of grapes were processed industrially. These numbers clearly show that our policy is consistent.” said- Levan Davitashvili.
