Deputy Minister attend a conference on circular economy

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Mr Solomon Pavliashvili delivered opening remarks at a third consecutive conference on circular economy - “Accelerating Transition to the Circular Economy in Georgia”. The circular economy is a way of achieving certain UN sustainable development goals (SDGs). The transition to a circular economy is at an early stage even in the most developed countries of the world.

 

“Application of an environmental policy and transition to a circular economy serves as one of the key priorities of our Government. As a follow-up to recommendations and support from the Government of Sweden and other partner countries, we have ensured full compliance of national waste management code, an entailing strategy and national plans with the European legislation. In an effort of cultivating green economy, it becomes of vital importance to complement production of sustainable and reusable production, as well as raising public awareness on these matters” – Deputy Minister Solomon Pavliashvili mentioned. 

 

Mr Dariusz Edward Prasek, and independent expert and member of the United Nations Advisory Board on Circular Economy delivered a presentation on accelerating transition to circular economy in Georgia and effective cultivation of the system. 

 

Attendees of the conference had an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the work of Deputy Minister Pavliashvili on “theories of economic effectiveness, development models and need for transition to circular economy”. 

 

The third consecutive conference was organized by the Orchis Union of Nature Researchers of Georgia, held in the framework of the project "Keep Georgia Tidy". The conference enjoyed participation of donor organizations, private sector and representatives of the respective agencies.
