Mr Levan Davitashvili: "Our consistent policy efforts have been translated into dozens of new gardens"

Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of  Georgia, Mr Levan Davitashvili attended the first harvest in the apple orchard of the agricultural cooperative "Pomona" at Gori Municipality. The projected yield of the intensive garden cultivated within the framework of the program "Plant the Future" is 80 tons.

The Plant the Future" program entails all necessary requirements and technology, which allows the farmer to plant modern, intensive gardens and get a high-quality, abundant harvest. This cooperative garden is a clear example of the latter. A few years ago, such farms did not exist in Georgia at all. As a result of our consistent policy - co-financing and support, technical assistance and knowledge sharing at various stages - dozens of such intensive and semi-intensive gardens have been planted in different cultures today. We hope that with the creation and development of such modern farms, the intervention that the state is undertaking in terms of housing non-standard crops will no longer be necessary. Our farmers will be able to produce high quality, competitive products and meet not only local demand, but also enter export markets." – Minister Levan Davitashvili stated.

Within the framework of the program "Plant the Future", the agricultural cooperative "Pomona" planted an apple and cherry garden on 12 hectares, including an apple garden on 5 hectares planted during the pandemic.

The cooperative received GEL 220,000 state funding for seedlings, irrigation and anti-hail systems installation. "Pomona" is a beneficiary of the preferential agro-credit program. The loan amounts to 620,000 GEL. Within the framework of the Program „Plant the Future", a garden has been planted on 2,387 hectares in Shida Kartli region, with a state co-financing of 16 million GEL.

The harvesting process in apple orchard of the agricultural cooperative "Pomona" enjoyed presence of Minister Davitashvili, Deputy State Representative of Shida Kartli region Mr Nugzar Samkharadze.
