Levan Davitashvili and Zurab Polikashvili opened Farmers' market, which was held within the framework of the the International Hospitality Forum

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Mr. Levan Davitashvili, made a welcome speech at the farmer’s market that was held within the framework of the the International Hospitality Forum.

 

“I’m delighted that Georgia is hosting high-ranking officials of the 112th session of of UN World Tourism Organization’s executive council.

 

Georgia is distinguished by culinary traditions and gastronomy that are integral parts of world tourism.

 

While speaking about Agriculture, we always imply rural development, which implicates different sectors’ to agriculture. We actively work on the production and processing of goods and the development of various tourist infrastructure, agro tourism,, gastro tourism, and wine tourism.

 

I would like to underline that ecotourist development is one of our country’s essential directions, as Georgia has great potential in this regard. I think that ecotourism is the best opportunity to get acquainted with the diversity of Georgian nature.

 

Today, At the market that was arranged specially for you, farmers from different regions will present local agricultural goods and traditional crafts that are in correspondence with the policy of our Ministry.

 

I am glad that Georgia is hosting such a high-level event, which is essential for raising the awareness about Georgia and promoting local products, which will contribute to the growth of rural prosperity, “- stated Levan Davitashvili.

 

Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization, Zurab Polikashvili, also made  a welcome speech at the event.

 

The farmers’ market was held with the support of Bank of Georgia, Georgian Farmers’ Association, and donor organizations.
Georgia hosted UNWTO’s 112th session of the Executive Council on September 16-17, 2020.
