Starting on October 1, public discussions about the workflow of the Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment will be held online

Amendments have been made to the "Environmental Assessment Code" as a reflection of the situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Public discussions under the workflow of the Environmental Impact Assessment and the Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment will now be held remotely, via electronic means of communication.

Correspondingly, public hearings that have been scheduled after October 1, will be conducted online. The Parliament of Georgia passed the "Environmental Assessment Code" on June 1st, 2017.

This Code regulates matters related to strategic documents and public or private activities, which may significantly affect the environment, human life, or health. The Code aims to take into account the ecological, social, and economic interests of the state or society in the decision-making process of a strategic document or activity that may significantly impact the environment.

Consequently, the public's active involvement in the environmental assessment and the consideration of its interests is an essential component of fairly conducting the process.

Information about the planned online discussions will be available on web pages: https://mepa.gov.ge or https://www.facebook.com/eiecgovgeÂ
