Levan Davitashvili: "Under the "Young Entrepreneurs" state program, tens of family wine cellars have been built solely in Kakheti Region. "

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Levan Davitashvili, together with the Acting State Attorney-Governor in the Kakheti Region Mr. Irakli Shiolashvili, attended the opening ceremony of the wine cellar in the village Shilda, Kvareli Municipality.

The Mindiashvili’s family owns a vineyard of different grape varieties grown on 21 hectares in Shilda village. This year, for the first time, The Mindiashvili’s family will produce Qvevri Wine under the family brand in the new wine cellar.

"In 2016, the Ministry launched a program that aims to support young farmers and entrepreneurs. Under the plan, dozens of family wine cellars have been built in the Kakheti region solely. Nowadays, these wine cellars are tourist destinations, whereby guests can taste traditional Georgian wine.

“I am glad that another family wine cellar has been opened in Kakheti. The entrepreneur, who used to produce grapes for primary production will have an opportunity to process the harvest, produce wine and additional value, employ locals, and benefit their families."- stated Levan Davitashvili.

Last year, hail completely destroyed the harvest of The Mindiashvili’s family. Given the experience, the wine grower insured his harvest. The farmer also plans to install an anti-hail net.

The family built the wine cellar under the state program supporting young entrepreneurs. The Mindiashvili’s family wine cellar has 16 pitches and a century-old winepress. The family is planning on building a tourist complex nearby the wine cellar in the future.
