"Diplomatic Vintage - 2020"

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Levan Davitashvili, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Davit Zalkaliani, hosted the representatives of the diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia in the "Diplomatic Vintage".

 

Participants of the Diplomatic Vintage 2020 visited the wine company "Shumi" in Tsinandali. Foreign diplomats were greeted at the wine museum "Vazioni" located on the territory of the company, got acquainted with the unique varieties of vines cultivated near the enterprise and took part in the traditional vintage.

 

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Levan Davitashvili informed the foreign diplomats about the importance of viticulture and winemaking for our country and the progress of the 2020 vintage. The Minister also familiarized the guests with the vintage tradition.

 

 "Traditionally, harvest is associated with celebration in Georgia. This is the crop settlement, which is a very important and exciting moment for every Georgian. We want to introduce our traditional culture to foreign friends, diplomatic representatives and Ambassadors accredited in Georgia. Therefore, this event showcasesGeorgian culture, aspiring to shed light to our traditions and wine at an international scale.  In 2020, amidst incumbentchallenges and obstacles,, we have been successful in accommodating the harvest without drawbacks, not a single kg of grape has been kept undelivered and the work of our farmers is highly appreciated, "- said Mr. Levan Davitashvili.

 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Davit Zalkaliani, noted the importance of the joint initiative of the Ministries of Environmental protection and Agriculture and Foreign Affairs, which is a good opportunity to present Georgia’s culture and traditions, as well as tourism potential.

 

"Every year, during the vintage, we invite representatives of the diplomatic missions to introduce them to our rich culture, traditions, centuries-old history of wine harvesting, which is Georgia's landmark character worldwide. This year, despite of the pandemic - we hosted the traditional diplomatic vintage. First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude toward my colleague, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Levan Davitashvili, who is one of the initiators of today's event and to the people who created the "Shumi Winery". Today’s event has aspired our guests with the traditions, but has also proved to be a truly vital effort for positioning Georgia and raising awareness in this regard” – Minister Zalkaliani stated.
