Minister Davitashvili discusses levelling off prices on wheat-derived production

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, levelling off stable pricing of main products, such as wheat and bread, has been set as a priority by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA). For swift and prompt coordination, Minister Levan Davitashvili hosted bakery and bread producers at the MEPA premises.

“Regular meetings with the business sector have become systematic and are especially vital due to the impact of the pandemic on domestic and global economies. Global turmoil has not disrupted supply and operation of bakeries and wheat-derived production. Prices have levelled off due to ensuring constant oversight over grain supply. There are no foreseeable disruptions in wheat-derived or grain supplies, thus prices will be maintained.

I regard our cooperation as constructive, transparent and effective. We shall aim at ensuring stability, while fostering a positive environment for business development” – Minister Davitashvili stated.

Mr Malkhaz Dolidze, Chairperson of Georgian Bakery Products Association upheld a commitment that despite elevated prices of wheat-derived products amid the pandemic, especially on grain, Georgia will ensure stable prices.

As an effort to counter the overpricing of wheat-derived products, Mr Levan Silagava, Director of the Georgian Flour Producers Association referred to social responsibility being at core for persisting raising prices, complemented with sufficient storage.

The meeting enjoyed the presence of Mr Giorgi Khanishvili, Deputy Minister of MEPA, along with the respective departments and representatives of grain and wheat-derived products’ sector.
