The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili met with members of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences.

The meeting between Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Mr. Solomon Pavliashvili and the members of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences was held at the meeting hall of the Presidium of the Academy. The main purpose of the meeting was to acquaint the stakeholders with the need to accelerate the transition to the circular economy in Georgia and the need for timely implementation of the system.

As the Deputy Minister remarked at the meeting, the use of circular economy approaches will help reduce waste, the production of hazardous substances in the country and their impact, and mitigate climate change.

"Today's economic system, the so-called linear economy, operates on the principle of 'take-make-consume-throw away'  and consumes resources inefficiently. As a result, the issues of resource scarcity and environmental pollution are becoming more acute day by day. Circular economics is an alternative to a linear economy (production, consumption, waste) where we use resources as long as possible, maximize their value, and then, at the end of each cycle of operation, rebuild products or raw materials and add new life."
