The Ministry hosts a discussion on recovery of Tbilisiās urban forest landscape and enhancement of recreational infrastructure
Minister of Envrionmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr Levan Davitashvili discussed the project of Tbilisiās urban forest recovery and enhancement of recreational infrastructure, at the meeting, with the Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi, Ms Maia Bitadze. The Cartu Foundation-supported project entails complete recovery-rehabilitation of the forest landscape at the Mtatsminda slope.Ā

Minister Davitashvili stressed out that recovery of urban forest will significantly improve incumbent ecological state of the city.Ā

During the meeting, Temur Tkemaladze, President of the Association of Hunters and Fishermen, who also serves as an author of Mtatsmindaās greenery project, provided a detailed brief on the research undertaken and preparatory works commenced within the project. Meanwhile, Giorgi Gotsiridze, Director of the Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing Consulting Center GeoGraphic, delivered a presentation on Tbilisiās urban forest space-functional and technical-economic approaches.Ā

The project on complete recovery-rehabilitation of the forest landscape at the Mtatsminda slope, will consistently transform an area into four harmonious seasons. Efforts within the project will ensure cultivation-rehabilitation of evergreen and deciduous trees, as well as paving shrub and grass cover. The project will commence in about 4-yearsā time.

In the course of the working meeting, attendees agreed to initially upgrade the given territoryās status, followed with elaboration of a unified space approach, and gradually implement the works set forth within the project. Elaboration of the project and planning efforts will commence during an early start of an upcoming year. Midterm report on the rehabilitation of Tbilisiās urban forest and enhancement of recreational infrastructure will be presented on October 15.Ā Ā

The meeting enjoyed a company of Mr Iuri Nozadze, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, along with other representatives from the Ministry and the Tbilisi City Hall.Ā Ā
