Minister Davitashvili: “We will join forces with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara for storing citrus harvest”

2020 has garned top notch quality harvest of citrus with an estimated projection of 40 tonnes; 50 % of these will be exported. A citrus harvest handling and storage efforts have been discussed by Mr Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and Mr Giorgi Surmanidze, Minister of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. 

 

“Together with Minister Surmanidze, we have scrutinized each of the strategic priorities – citrus harvest at their core. As a well-established practice during the last few years, we will operate a special unit for realizing citrus harvest, which will ensure coordination of non-standard tangerines handling, processing, oversight of the flow and registry within an electronic system. This year, an orange harvest will be handled in an organized manner” – Minister Davitashvili stated. 

 

Deputy Minister Surmanidze elaborated that despite of citrus harvest not being bumper, the quality of the latter has increased. 2020 harvest projects 7,000 tonnes of non-standard tangerines, which will be subsidized by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. An estimated 30 storage-sorting enterprises will receive non-standard harvest
