Remote meeting of the working group on Sustainable Forest Management

The Rural Development Interagency Coordination Council’s remote meeting hosted an extended session within the Sustainable Forest Management project. The Sustainable Forest Management project is implemented by the CENN through financial assistance of the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC). 


Mr Iuri Nozadze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA) and Ms Nana Janashia, Executive Director of CENN delivered opening remarks. Mr Alexander Karner, Head of the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC)'s South Caucasus Office also addressed attendees. 


Utilizing products of non-trunk tree products and an entailing four-year strategy has been discussed by Mr Karlo Amirgulashvili, MEPA’s Head of Biodiversity and Forestry Department. The tourist-recreational forest territories have been presented by Archil Nikoleishvili, Head of the National Forestry Agency. 


The Rural Development Strategy of Georgia 2017-2020 has unified the core sector for local economy development, such as and not limited to production of primary and processed agriculture products, non-agricultural activities, management of forests and other natural resources and tourism. 


Georgia has adopted the Forest Code, which aims at cultivating certain systemic amendments and endorses novelties for generating additional income for the rural dwellers.Â
