Georgia exports 65, 7 million USD worth of hazelnut during August 1 – December 13

Georgia continues successful efforts for exporting hazelnut, which has already amounted into 65, 7 million USD (12, 664 tonnes) during the period of August 1 – December 13, 2020. The export of the same period of 2019 has boosted in 3, 5 tonnes (38 %), amounting an increase of 19, 7 million USD (43 %). 

 

The vast majority of Georgian hazelnut export has reached European Union market, mainly Germany (3, 641 tonnes), Italy (2, 830 tonnes), Czech Republic (616 tonnes), Lithuania (355 tonnes), Poland (354 tonnes), Spain (352 tonnes), Bulgaria (322 tonnes),  France (240 tonnes), Latvia (106 tonnes), Greece (97 tonnes), Estonia (88 tonnes), Luxembourg (84 tonnes), Slovakia (74 tonnes), Belgium (44 tonnes), Austria (22 tonnes) and Croatia (10 tonnes).  

 

Nevertheless, Georgian hazelnut has been exported to countries such as Armenia (703 tonnes),  the Russian Federation (540 tonnes), Turkey (530 tonnes),  Belarus (362 tonnes), Ukraine (212 tonnes), Brazil (186 tonnes),  Algeria (185 tonnes), Canada (146 tonnes), Saudi Arabia (95 tonnes), Mexico (67 tonnes), Uzbekistan (58 tonnes),  Syria (50 tonnes), Switzerland (47 tonnes), Jordan (38 tonnes), Great Britain (35 tonnes), Iraq (24 tonnes), United Stated (19 tonnes) and etc.

 

Spread of the sting bug and fungal diseases in 2016 had gradually dropped hazelnut production and export, which reached minimal scale of 17 tonnes in 2018. Large-scale efforts and the State-deployed strategy, services and farmers have resulted into tangible outcome of fighting stink bug and celebration of high-quality harvest of 2020.
