Minister Davitashvili: “Our consistent efforts of shaping environmental policy have been inspired by the EU-Georgia Association Agreement and aspire to harmonize Georgian legislation and policies with the European standards”

The Ministry has undertaken meaningful legislative drafting process:

·  Adoption of a new and European air quality management standards;


·  Adoption of 2020-2022 atmospheric air quality enhancement action plan for the city of Rustavi;


·  Ensuring adherence to fuel quality norms and adoption of stricter sanctions for violations;


·  Adoption of new regulations on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from enterprises and deploying EU system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is underway;


·  Up to 200 large enterprises have been imposed requirements for reducing air pollution; 


·  Determining European standards for atmospheric air quality monitoring;


· Drafting the new law on “water resources management”. The new law will cultivate river basin management;


· Elaboration of national strategy and action plan framework for marine environment strategy;


· Elaboration of a new document regarding the  climate change-related, nationally determined contributions (NDCs);


·  Elaboration of climate change strategy and 2021-2023 action plan.
